Courtney Konecny is the Sr. Director of Care Coordination and joined The Headstrong Project team in July 2021. She brings over 20+ years of clinical experience in trauma-informed care and program development. Before joining The Headstrong Project, she co-founded and directed two grassroots programs in upstate NY impacting urban youth through trauma-sensitive mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and creative arts therapy in the Rochester City School District; and a 501c3 NFP program providing accessibility to low or no-cost alternative therapies and wellness practices for underserved and marginalized communities, including women recovering from abuse and veterans recovering from PTSD. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Courtney also co-founded and curated the CoCreate Urban Garden Project & Community Labyrinth in Rochester, NY, which provided a natural healing space promoting sustainable living and wellness experiences for survivors of trauma and abuse. Since 2011, Courtney has been dedicated to serving the veteran community, including her work at the Veterans Outreach Center in Rochester, NY.
Courtney holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Studio Art from SUNY College at Brockport and a Master’s in Creative Arts Therapy from Nazareth College. She is a nationally registered and board-certified, NY State licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) trained in trauma-focused modalities, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) and somatic therapies to address the impact of trauma on the nervous system. Additionally, she is a certified yoga instructor, therapeutic sound healer, and mindfulness meditation teacher, having proudly supported BIPOC, LGBTQ+, at-risk youth, and veteran communities throughout her career.
Courtney resides in upstate NY, where in her free time, she enjoys quality time with family and friends, making mixed-media art, practicing yoga and meditation, and spending time in nature. She embraces a philosophy of compassion and humanness both personally and professionally.
