The Headstrong Project Inc. is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and equitable mental health choice for the nation’s veterans, military service members, and their connected families by generating access to quality trauma-informed care and innovating mental health delivery systems nationally.
Currently operating out of 15 states plus the District of Columbia, Headstrong is a team of community-based clinical providers in private practice and others who seek to improve the quality of mental health care. By establishing and managing networks of providers without building brick and mortar facilities, Headstrong maximizes fundraised dollars towards the delivery of care provided by our experienced trauma clinicians.
Position Description
The Headstrong Project is seeking a Director of Human Resources to develop and lead human resources for the organization. Responsibilities include designing and evaluating career paths, stewarding a diverse and inclusive culture,overseeing HR functions and crafting strategies to support our business goals. Ultimately, you will help secure our long-term growth by leading all training, culture management, talent acquisition and career development activities. This position will sit in the operations team and report to the Chief Operating Officer. This position will build human resources alongside personnel focused on business operations, finance, technology.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy
- Bridge management and employee relations by addressing demands, grievances or other issues
- Nurture a positive working environment based on equity, inclusivity, diversity, trust, and collaboration
- Support current and future business needs through the development, engagement, motivation and preservation of human capital
- Develop and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, tactics and procedures across the organization
- Oversee and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance
- Develop benefits and wellness communication plan to the organization
- Work alongside technology and business operations team to streamline any processes
- Serve as a strategic partner to the executive team and provide HR guidance and support
- Manage the recruitment and selection process, including job postings, resume screening, interviewing, and offer letters.
- Manage compensation and benefits programs, including salary administration, employee benefits, and retirement plans.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Develop and deliver training programs for managers and employees on HR policies and procedures, as well as other topics as needed.

- In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR best practices
- Experience working in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization is preferred.
- Degree in Human Resources or related field or SHRM SCP certified
- At least 5 years of experience in HR, with at least 2 years in a management or leadership role
Employment Information
Location: Remote locations within the continental United States acceptable. Preference are candidates in the NY metropolitan area
Compensation: Include salary range for position – see HSP compensation guide. Salary is commensurate with experience.
