Headstrong History

Veteran-founded in 2012, we are one of the nation’s leading mental health care providers for military, veterans, and their associated family members. We have developed a first-of-its-kind, comprehensive treatment program addressing the psychological aftermath of trauma. Treatment is both collaborative and evidence-based.

Headstrong commits to supporting those who bravely served their country, regardless of service era or discharge status, and battle daily with the impact of trauma. We deliver the treatment, tools, and support needed to win that battle. Confidential. Barrier-free. Stigma-free.

2012

Headstrong is founded in New York City

In 2012, Zach Iscol, Al Rabil, and Dave Petrucco co-founded The Headstrong Project in partnership with Dr. Ann Beeder and Gerard Ilaria, LCSW at Weill Cornell Medicine. The Headstrong Project served veterans in New York and New Jersey in its first years of operation.

2015

Headstrong expands into first new market

Following the advice, guidance, and strategic direction of a team of experts provided by Morgan Stanley, Headstrong expanded clinical services to San Diego.

2016

Headstrong begins national expansion

The expansion proved to be highly successful and provided the framework and roadmap for continued expansion to new markets across the United States.

2018

Headstrong Refines Infrastructure

Headstrong remains a lean team of 7 full time staff members and has invested in a robust infrastructure. Headstrong has invested in marketing, data systems, enhanced referral networks, and lead generation.

2023

Headstrong Focuses on Strategic Stance and Performance

With the arrival of its new Chief Executive Officer, Dan Kaepernik (USMC ret.), The Headstrong Project begins setting its 2028 course and focuses on growth, market expansion and performance to establish a national practice of choice for high quality mental health treatment.
