Katie Dexter was a founding member of Hirepurpose, a leading military recruiting technology solution that helps connect veteran talent to Fortune 1000 companies, from 2012-2022. Over the decade at Hirepurpose she worked her way up from Director of Operations to CEO. Katie developed much of the company’s operational functions, budget, and sales forecasting. She also built the technology roadmap for Hirepurpose’s programmatic job advertising that supports military and diversity hiring. Katie was fortunate enough to be the first employee of the nimble start-up, leading it through acquisition in October of 2020.
She credits some of her ability to adapt and overcome challenges to her time serving in the Army Reserves and her deployment to Tikrit, Iraq in 2004. Katie joined the Army in 2000, at the age of 17, with a waiver signed by her Dad. At that young age she recognized that she would need to find a way to put herself through college and knew that the GI Bill would be a great way to obtain an education. Katie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism with a minor in Psychology from Central Connecticut State University.
From humble beginnings in Upstate New York, Katie’s achievements are a testament to how far a person’s determination and ability to learn can ultimately take them. She is a firm believer that her success in leading teams and managing a business is shared as she often says, “We don’t get through this world alone.” Knowing how to work with people and being a trusted team member are attributes that lead to a successful business.
